PictureNew Year New Career 2015
According to a 2014 New Year’s Resolution statistics report, 45% of Americans usually make New Year’s Resolutions. Learning something exciting is ranked number 6 of the top 10 New Year’s resolutions for 2014.*

Are you thinking about starting something new, fun, exciting, and rewarding? If so, you might want to consider starting a voice recording career. Audiobooks, digital training, and video games are just a few of the areas where voice recording artists are in hot demand!

My Voice Recording Career
I started my voice recording career in 2014 because I wanted to do something that used my personal talents. I wanted to do something that was personally related to me and no one else. The one thing that kept coming to mind was my voice. I sang in glee club in high school, sang in musical plays in college, and recorded the instructions for a popular exercise book as an adult. I also sang for several years as the worship leader in a Christian rock band. In searching for something exciting to do, one day I thought, “I’m just going to use what the good Lord gave me!”
I’m just going to use my voice.

The Voice Recording Industry is a Friendly Industry
The voice recording industry is a very friendly and helpful industry. Once I set out to make voice recording my new career, I began talking to people who were already successful voice recording artists. All of them were happy to help me learn what to do to become the best I could be in the voice recording industry. It was from these people that I took copious notes and set out to create a demo of my voice and set up a profile to introduce myself and to help me find work. I received my first assignment just two days after publishing my voice recording profile on a popular audiobook publishing website.

The Voice Recording Book
Because I was quickly successful, I wrote a book to help others become successful in the voice recording industry, as well. The book is called, Ten No Nonsense Steps to Becoming an Audiobook Recording Artist. The book is nothing fancy. It is short and concise. The only information contained in the book is information that I deem 100% helpful in becoming a successful voice recording artist.

One of the most important aspects of a voice recording career is your voice demo. The majority of the details contained in the book are spent on helping you create the most dynamic voice demo possible. You will read step-by-step instructions telling you exactly what I did to create a dynamic voice demo and how I was able to land my first voice recording job.

Learn From the Best
Of course, I want you to buy my book. In addition to having the book on your bookshelf or in your Kindle device, something else you should do is learn from people who are successful in the voice recording industry. Visit websites, read blogs, join social media groups, and participate in forums of other voice recording artists. You will be in excellent company when you do this. The voice recording industry is filled with helpful people. Why? Because your voice is your voice. It is unique. And, in that sense, there is no true competition. Clients hire you for your distinct voice. If your voice is the voice the client is looking for, then you get the job. Since you are the only person with your voice, there is no one on the planet who can compete with you. Voice artists treat each other as comrades. We help each other succeed because when one of us succeeds, we all succeed as a respected industry.

Start a Voice Artist Career in the New Year!
To be successful, the most important tool you need to get started is your voice. After that, you need equipment that will capture your voice and allow you to put your voice on display. My book will walk you through the process of capturing your voice and creating a voice demo that will help you showcase your talent.

You don’t need a lot to become successful in the voice recording industry. You just need a voice, equipment to record your voice, and you need to get your voice heard by clients who are searching for a voice exactly like yours.

Voiceover Narration Assignment
My most recent voice narration job offer came from author James Nugent of Eld Inlet Services. When I read the title of the manuscript, "The Catholic Way of Dying," I immediately felt honored to be offered an assignment that covered a very sensitive topic… death.

I humbly accepted the assignment. The author gave very few directions. In fact, his primary direction was, “Pray!” Well, that was an easy order because I always pray before starting an assignment, especially an assignment as precious as this one. The other direction the author gave me was, “Just be you.”

I read through the manuscript three times to get a feel for the proper delivery. A topic such as this deserves almost perfection in tempo, pitch, and inflections in order to deliver the message correctly.

After reading the manuscript, I was left with a feeling of contentment about the subject of dying. The fear of dying went away. In fact, living with the thought of death being a part of life encouraged me to live a good life now; to enjoy life to the fullest; to live in the moment; to enjoy every thing and everyone in my life. This audiobook is, in a way, a gift of life.

The Catholic Way of Dying
We all die. It is a fact of life. In living a good life, we need to also plan and be prepared for what happens when we die. Catholics have a unique way of looking at death and living with death.

Everyone dies at one point or another. No one escapes death. The audiobook, The Catholic Way of Dying, was narrated and produced to help everyone understand how to live life without the fear of dying.

Publisher’s Summary
For modern culture that does not highly value life, it is paradoxical that we don’t want to talk about the dying process or the possibility of an afterlife. Catholics sometimes suffer from the same hesitation about talking about death. Yet the Roman Catholic religion and culture are constant preparation for that moment when we must trust Jesus for our salvation. All the rituals and sacraments, prepare our minds and hearts for that thing from which there is no escape. --James Nugent, Author

The year 2014 saw a lot of “news” for the life of
Marlene C. Bertrand (the writer) and the Voices by Marlene audiobook production business. Once I made the decision to begin my voice recording career, I started off quickly, landing my first gig in two days after uploading my profile page and voice demos to an online voice talent agency. I’ll be honest; when I received my first assignment, I was nervous to the point where I almost blew it. But, I was fortunate that my first client was a compassionate person who only had one piece of advice, “Just be you.” So I relaxed. I read my first audiobook the way I would read a book out loud to a friend. The client liked it and since that first assignment, the client has offered many subsequent assignments, keeping me busy throughout the year.

Time to Take a Break
The Christmas season is a time of year that I treasure. I take a break from working and spend time with family and friends. I decorate the house and spend time with the people in my life who have been there for me through thick and thin.

So, for now, I am taking a break from voice recording assignments and audio productions. I will be back in the year 2015, ready to narrate and produce the most amazing books on the planet. Until then, I wish for you, a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
